hey all,

found a link to here from boards and have been impressed by the content and discussion i've seen, so thought why not join up. i'm a web dev (very loosely used) mainly working with PHP/JS/CSS and a bit of python! hoping i'll pick up a few tips around here and you never know i may have something to contribute!

Thought I might as well give an introduction. As you can gather by my username my name is Aaron Donohoe, I'm a Leaving Cert student from Dublin. I've been involved in web development for a few years, I used to run a number of niche blogs until recently when I sold the bulk of my portfolio due to the fact my spare time has become rather scarce. Nowadays I just run websites as a hobby - to further develop my skills and to establish new business contacts with similar interests. I run a personal blog at aarondonohoe.com, feel free to visit/criticise :eek:

Anyway, I was drawn to the forum a few months ago but at the time, but I never registered. I came across it again and I eventually got around to registering, so here I am.

Hi Everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am a married woman with three beautiful children. The problem with these three beautiful children they were starting to cost a fortune! Especially with school fees etc... So I decided to set up an on-line clothes shopping cart.
I set it up with Blacknight and they were wonderful. I have years of selling,buying, etc experience because that was the line I worked at before in my past life.Lol
So now I am here . I do enjoy it and I am learning new things everyday after making silly mistakes.

1. I was so eager to pleasemy customers,I posted to customers to keep them happy with swift post, before they even sent money! Then they would not pay and I would get stung ! Big no no now I only post when payment as been received. I did not realise how dishonest people can be.

2. Another stupid mistake paying stupid money for going on to directories etc now I just exchange links and go to free advertisements.

3. My images were wrong on website now I am nearly getting the hang of editeding them properly 457x700 and 187x215.

I am really learning something new everyday. I found websites that tell your traffic ratings excellent. there is one I will tell you about after I have made 10 posts it is fantasic. Everyday now I check and see has my traffic gone up and when it has I get so excited sad I know. I eventually got my Meta Tags sorted for my website.I have chosen words that are searched more often than other words.
Instead of Fantasy costumes I have fancydress because fancydress is searched for more.

I thought after doing a computer course that I knew it all but I didn`t and it is alot harder than I anticipated. But I am enjoying it. Not making much money though..I am hoping that is beacause I am only new on the block and I have to get known - I hope it is not the stock that I am buying as I decided to hit the under 30`s as I felt they might be the only people with money. Older are paying mortgages and school fees .

Hi Mike.

I don't think I introduced myself here so will do it now. I've been working in Web Development and applications since 1996. I've been working in SEO since I used it to promote our "new" software outsourcing company in 2001 and now I do SEO full time separately.

There are two things annoying about SEO - 1 is the many, many people who advertise SEO services but don't rank anywhere. The clearly obvious non-SEO's. And the second is the clique who think they can validate who is and who isn't an SEO despite that SEO having a strong ranking tradition....simply becuase they don't agree with that SEO's methods or understanding. Thing is nobody except Google knows exactly what Google thinks. We all just have ou experiences to go on....

I wouldn't go as far as your affirmation quoted above, and yes there are a lot of "so called" SEO's out there, but such is life....

I've come across a few so called SEO's in the past. Throwing around buzz words and never having any actual achievements to show. Very annoying.
