I've decided to dump adsense for a while and try a mixture of adbrite and clicksor

I'll see how they perform for a few days, as adsense wasn't doing very well on here at all

Say hello to 'Teen and Adult Chat Rooms' :D

Oh, correction, now I have 'Buy $50 and Get $200 Free' casino ads :)

Yes you were, but some of them are the type of spam or pop-up windows you get from some websites like:

You are the 999 customer . You have won. click here....

and the colours are dreadfully.

Unfortunately the jumping 'You've won' images don't just do my head in, they actually make me a little dizzy as I have some problems with flashing imagery.

Can you keep it to text-only adverts?

From what I can gather the Clicksor network optimises the ads based on your content, but it seems to be a wee bit slow to pick up on it.. Hopefully it will "kick in" soon and I'll have a better idea of how good or bad it is...

I wouldn't have thought that a forum for creative, marketing and technical internet folks would generate much advertising revenue at all. Don't adwords and other online advertising formats normally work better on a less net-savvy set of users?

It depends what you are selling I suppose...

Clicksor hasn't earned anything over the last few days, so I've disabled it.

Adbrite seems to pay more, so I'm going to hold onto it for a bit longer to see what happens :)

I would recommend that. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was quite disappointed with adbrite in the beginning, but once you start getting direct advertisers, it's great. I like the way they mix contextual with direct.

Also, the active interstitials are very profitable, but I don't think they would go down very well here.

At the moment I'm using adbrite to serve adsense until I actually get some advertisers :)

OK, being honest, I think you are taking the wrong approach here. Think of your demographics. Who is actually using this site? The domain says it all. Webmasters.

First of all, webmasters are, in my opinion, more susceptible to ad blindness. Therefore contextual advertising is less effective. Also, there are not many products to advertise to established webmasters. We tend to listen to our peers more than banners and contextual ads. I'm not saying it doesn't work, just that it will be less effective.

Think who would want to advertise here? And in what format?
Members would like to advertise here. Text link advertising. I know you use TLA, but why not cut out the middleman? (You thought me that from our discussion on domain parking).

Now, lets start brainstorming. What do other webmaster forums advertise? I know v7n advertise their directory. Don't you have one or two of them to cross promote?

Again, it's your forum and you can do what you like, that's just my 2 cents.

I'd be more than happy to sell text links on here :)

You wouldnt have a problem in finding people to buy the links. I know one guy who probably would be interested but I think he is a Page Rank freak so you might be better waiting until your Page Rank jumps, you'll make more from the links you sell.

While I make quite a bit of money from PR freaks, I think you will attract a lot of advertisers (Including Myself) who are educated on the value of a link and it's relevance. PR means practically nothing in this day and age, nothing compared to relevant authority link (And you are fast becoming an authority).

While you are deciding, you might also want to have an "Advertise Here" link beside yout TLA ads that links directly to the TLA listing.

Just another thing that popped into my head there. One thing that I always go for is "Member discount advertising". Members get to buy cheap text links once they are active enough (Measured by posts or whatever). This gets more people to sign up and post, earns you more money, gets you more pageviews, more content.... everyone wins.

Just a thought.
